About the event

What is kirtan?
Kirtan you could describe as devotional singing. For some people it is musical
expression, for others it is spiritual practice. As we immerse ourselves in kirtan, we
heal the body, calm the mind, and awaken the spirit. Kirtan awakens joy, promotes
emotional healing, and creates a deep sense of unity.
In kirtan, there is no judgment. People are free to sing loudly, softly, off-key, or with
tears streaming down their faces. This non-judgemental space allows for authentic
emotional expression.
At its core, kirtan is a spiritual practice designed to awaken the soul and reconnect us
with the Divine. It is the heart of Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of devotion.
If you’ve ever felt the need to reconnect with something greater than yourself, if
you’ve ever longed for inner peace or community, then kirtan may be the right
practice for you.
What we do?
Sandra and Emil facilitate the kirtan sessions by singing and accompany several
different mantras with different instruments such as the Indian harmonium and guitar.
The mantras we sing together are mostly in Sanskrit. They can be very simple such
as the repetition of the name of the Divine or more complicated. By repeating the
mantras it will become easier and the powerful Sanskrit words will have an affect on
you, even if you don’t understand a single word.
